Winter Getaway – What Jewelry to Pack

Roslyn Jewelry Care & Tips, Lifestyle Nautical Style, Resort, Travel

There’s snow on the ground; it’s really, really cold and there’s still another month of winter on the calendar. It is time for a winter getaway! But where to go, what should you pack and most importantly, what jewelry should you take away with you? Sun and sand are a delightful way to beat the winter blues – there’s a beach out there calling your name.

Caribbean is Calling!

Caribbean is Calling!

Easy Beach Fashion

An especially nice part of a beach vacation is that you don’t need to pack much to look and feel fabulous; bathing attire, shorts and tees, casual dinner clothes, a sarong for a beach cover up or to use as a shawl at night and one really nice outfit. Being on a vacation means you can luxuriate. You have relaxed after a day at the beach or around the pool, then have a nap, a long shower and you can take your time getting ready for the evening.

Even if you only packed 1 maxi dress and a couple pair of culottes (yes – they’re back) or capris with a few different tops – if you take along some special necklaces you can perk up your outfit and achieve lots of different looks. Accessories take up very little space and give you the extra pizzaz you want to have on vacation.

Resort Trends 2015 – Which Accessories Make the Cut?

What have you usually done in the past? You took your time planning your clothes. Maybe you even bought some resort wear apparel. You want to have jewelry with you that also says, “I’m on vacation”.
Once referred to as ‘holiday jewelry’- these are pieces full of personality, an exotic air and an essence of fun.

The resort trends of 2015 include bold, playful color combinations and nautical nods ranging from sailor-like details to oceanic elements – perfect for seaside locales. Here are a selection of our necklaces that will update your favorite ensembles and make them resort chic.

Exotic nautical looks from Earth and Moon Design

A versatile khaki outfit or white blouse will come to life when paired with a vibrant handmade necklace. These designs call out, “take me away”. And when you take a piece of jewelry with you on vacation, it carries the memory of that week in the sun home with it.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  1. Hi Roslyn! This is a fun and uplifting post, full of amazing ideas on the best jewelry to match beachwear. I will keep it in mind on my next vacation, especially like the maritime-themed necklaces. Fun!

  2. Love the graphics and your suggestion of your designs you put with them. Who wouldn’t want a beach getaway after seeing this post! That’s why I am so happy to be away and enjoying the beach. And I always pack jewelry, especially my necklaces, as I agree that even if you only have a few outfits with you, you can add a necklace and for me, bracelets, and away you to. Love how your images are now including a Pin it button and you make me reconsider the platform for myself. Another great post idea featuring your jewelry.

Thanks Beverley Golden for your enthusiastic response. A collaborative effort and we seem to be hitting the mark. Happy you are away in sun, beach & warmth & it should not be so cold upon your return to Canada.

      1. To add to this previous comment, I seem to have favourite necklaces that I wear most often when I travel. I cannot imagine not bringing my jewelry (both necklaces and bracelets) to dress up whatever I am wearing. Without them, I actually feel a bit naked, as I discovered when I forgot to put on bracelets the other day. For some of us, jewelry is as important as the clothes we bring and in fact for me, the clothes are often secondary to the jewelry! 😉

I know what you mean about feeling naked. If I dash out without earrings, I have hat feeling. I often plan my wardrobe around the necklace I want to wear, so jewelry is as important as my clothes. Thanks for adding these thoughts.

  3. Hi Roz,

Now you have me WANTING to get away from all of this cold and snow! Thank you for your inspirational post! Thinking about warm, sun, beach, sunsets, sunrises and just warm weather, thank you! Love the winter getaway jewelry pack as well 🙂

  4. Just beautiful, Roz! Although I do wish you had more designs in 16″ (I’m petite and the longer lengths hit me in the wrong spot). Living in a year-round moderate climate, it’s always vacation-wear time in Tucson, so these ideas work for me now. Thanks!

So glad you got some ideas from this blog. I used to make 16″ but most women asked for longer. Have done some with adjustable chain links. Been thinking of doing a 16″ petite collection.

  5. You really conjured up a vision of a relaxing beach vacation! I just realized that I do give more thought to what jewelry to take than I do on the clothes I pack. That’s because I can vary the look of a few outfits by wearing different pieces of jewelry. Thanks for the examples and the nice thought that when you wear things on vacation, those pieces remind you later of where you wore them.

Thank you Beth Niebuhr for confirming the difference jewelry makes to an outfit. Our goal was to lure everyone to the beach, in fantasy or in reality. Even if at home in the cold, wearing caribbean colors can make a difference.

  6. I really like your idea about buying an item of jewelry to associate with a holiday (I’m from the UK – we don’t do vacations 😉 ). It’s the perfect thing to buy yourself or your partner for such an occasion because it will always remind you of the event. Don’t tell me wife though. She’ll want to bring our holiday forward!

  7. Great pieces Ros. I’m a firm believer that a statement necklace can MAKE an outfit. I tend to wear basic solid colors with a POP of color….which comes from my necklace.

  8. I’m already living the vacation dream life down here in Florida every day so I get to wear these beachy looks pretty much year round except on the rare day like today when it will remain in the 50s . Beautiful pieces highlighted as always Roslyn…have a great day and stay warm up there in the northern tundra 🙂

  10. Wow Roz, you are sure getting me into the warmer weather mode. It isn’t snowing here in Texas but it is cooler than usual. I prefer the heat! LOL Love the cobalt necklace… never been a big chunky necklace wearer, not sure, but love the look on others. As usual, nice fun post and tying in some great jewels!

By now Kristen we are all interested in warmer weather. The cobaly necklace is light as a feather and a very trendy look. Sometimes you just have to try something different.

  11. Thanks for your very inspiring post made out of passion. I agree that jewelries help us on-trend travel look, especially in the winter getaway. match them with appropriate bathing attires and other outfits for the burst of color and fun. Looking forward to seeing some of your re-invention on your subsequent posts.

  12. Roslyn, you’re exactly right! Your jewelry would be the perfect pop of color to a flowy linen beach T or sundress. In Florida, women often still get stylish with their beachwear, especially to transition from sunbathing to dinner or drinks at the tiki bar or cafe. I can envision wearing your piece on a getaway weekend!

  14. -30 C with the windchill, I’m ready for those beaches. Love the colours and relaxed looks. As I read your post I realize that I’m more likely to wear a statement piece of jewelry in the summer. Is that what you find?

Your jewelry designs are lovely. I love the thought you put in your posts.

Thank you so much Heather Cameron for your lovely comment. So much depends on where someone lives, how often they go out. It might be that with open neckline or lower neckline you feel like wearing something on your skin to highlight your face or hair.

Veronica, I think we should all get on a plane and fly off to the Caribbean. I’ll pack enough jewelry for all of us, and you can pack your fun sun clothes.

  15. Another great post! I’m a big fan of maxi dresses and take them everywhere. They work really well for my full figure. Plus they are really comfortable and cute! Accessories make all the difference to change up the look and style. A nice necklace and pair of earrings can dress it up or make it more fun and funky. Thanks!

Thanks Kristen. From what I can tell you do a good amount of travel with your family. I’m sure you wore great outfits on your recent trip to Puerto Rico. Thanks for the compliments.

  17. Roslyn, This blog was so great because we are still freezing here in Western NY. Though, today, 24 degrees felt like it was 50 or 60 degrees! Your designs are stunning and I personally love that Citrine necklace and the Sea Treasures necklaces you have. This is one site I’ll be visiting as my wallet gets fatter – that’s for sure. You always have great stuff; not just jewelry but your advice on how to pair them with outfits – which are always tips that are good for me! Stay warm .. Thank you for this fun & warm post.

Tamara MacDuff- yup-it was wonderful being out in the sun today and it almost felt like spring- hah. Thanks for your compliments and especially love your enthusiasm for our posts.

  18. Roslyn,

I absolutely love your blog. When I pack for a trip no matter where we are going I have my favorite jewelry. I have to have big and chunky and bright because I am a colorful person when it comes to putting my outfits together and my shoes and purses have to match. Nothing feels better when you have the most amazing, FUN jewelry.

  19. So beautiful – the colors scream sun and beach! I love how you point out that jewelry can assist in an outfit being more casual, or more dressed up. It is so true! We have had such an odd and warm winter in the Pacific NW – we are all a bit confused! But a beach get away sounds amazing any time!!!!

Thanks A Lynn Jesus for your response. Yes, adding the right jewelry to an outfit can do so much for your overall look. And we can all head to the tropics about now.
