Getting the Most out of Your Jewelry: Talisman Jewelry
Are you getting the most out of your jewelry? Like many women who have a jewelry collection, you may only wear some of what you own but your gemstone jewelry is more precious than you may know as it can act as talisman jewelry with beneficial properties that can bring you good luck and protect you! As jewelry designers, we’ve heard many of the reasons why people don’t wear their jewelry:
I have my favorites.
I hardly go out.
I dress more casually now.
I always wear a particular necklace with a specific outfit.
I don’t know how to coordinate my accessories with my outfits.
My taste has changed.
These are all valid reasons but as we are very much in touch with the magic that lies within gemstones, we want to invite you to
re-invent your collection as a treasure chest full of secret weapons.
Reconnecting with Your Jewelry
It’s quite common to keep jewelry tucked away but when it’s hidden in a drawer or even a special box, we often forget about it.
One creative solution a friend has to make her jewelry accessible is by displaying it decoratively. Linda has her necklaces hanging from pins and pegs using an old printers frame.
Make your jewelry collection a work of art
A friend Beverley wouldn’t think of leaving home without donning some jewelry, and her daughter is the same way. Her approach is to select from her stash a necklace or sometimes just bracelets and earrings that energetically match her mood for the day.
And why are we saving that new necklace for a special occasion? Why can’t every day be one where you want to feel special? The minute you put on a necklace you know you’ve just upped your appearance and your mood. Ever notice how adding a beaded necklace to a white blouse and jeans makes you look and feel ‘dressed’?
Power through Adornment
Many of us wake up with an intention for the day. We have our to-do lists and we want to accomplish things with grace and confidence amongst other things. Selecting a gemstone necklace that symbolizes certain attributes is a way to amplify your intention for the day and empower yourself towards your goal. Or perhaps you want the support of someone with you that day and wearing something that someone dear gave you makes them feel close. We add meaning to many of the objects we own and our relationship to ourselves can be nurtured and strengthened when we take the extra step of adorning ourselves with jewelry.
A Talisman for Each Day
You could choose to wear a necklace by a gemstone for each weekday. Yes, despite the many sources and variants for the gemstones of the days of the week, there are some consistencies that can guide you in wearing jewelry as a talisman for each day. A ‘talisman’ is an object that is capable of channeling energy to its wearer. Each day of the week corresponds to a certain planet and wearing an appropriate gemstone for that day is said to bring fulfillment of one’s goals. We hope every woman who loves jewelry will now check her jewelry box to see if she has a necklace representing each planet to bring her good fortune.
It is unlikely that you have jewelry in the gemstones or even all the right colors to balance out your weekly selection. To help you out, we will include designs from our collection, to supplement and freshen up yours.
Sunday: The Sun
The metal of the Sun is gold. It is good to wear any yellow or orange stones, perhaps a necklace with Amber, Topaz or Citrine:
Monday: The Moon
Select jewelry with some silver, the metal controlled by the Moon. The moon is a water element and is connected to dark blue color or a variety of blues. The best gemstones are Pearls and Moonstone:
Tuesday: Mars
A stone for Tuesday should have a color of passion as the warrior Mars is connected to how we think and feel. The best gemstones are Ruby, Coral, Carnelian, and Sardonyx:
Wednesday: Mercury
Alloys with Mercury are said to be able to resolve problems related to metabolism and interpersonal communications. Talisman jewelry with high mercury property is best when worn at the level of lungs (pendant), rings or bracelets. You can also wear any stone in a green shade; motley stones with holes and any transparent stones. The best gemstones are Aventurine, Amazonite and Turquoise:
Thursday: Jupiter
Wear jewels made from several kinds of metals or stones. Jupiter is known as a planet of exploration and the talisman jewelry should be rather large, complete sets, mixed stones- in other words, a great statement necklace. The best gemstones are Aquamarine, Sapphire, and Lapis Lazuli.
Friday: Venus
Any jewelry that is copper based with a stone that is earth color or brown or gentle but not too pale a color. Venus’s sensuality color is pink and governs the throat, therefore shorter necklaces are best. The recommended gems for Friday are Emerald, Chrysoprase, Chrysolite, and Peridot:
Saturday: Saturn
Saturn is a planet related to shapes and obstacles. It’s talismans are faceted and opaque stones and those in Saturn’s colors of black or gray. Recommended gemstones are Agate, Hematite, Obsidian:
You can align yourself with the planets or follow your instincts- the colors and textures you are drawn to when accessorizing. Relating to your jewelry as talismans adds to your arsenal of inner strength and secret weapons and infuses your day with a feeling of confidence. At EarthandMoonDesign.com, all of our handmade jewelry is created with an intention of positivity; aiming to enhance your natural beauty and invigorate your spirit and style.

I would have to say I’m guilty of this too. I have certain pieces I wear all the time (your jewelry included) and just get used wearing certain things with certain clothes. I find that I get excited about new things and then don’t wear them on a regular basis. I should be more open about it though.
Roslyn, when I read the reasons 2 and 3 really stood out to me “I hardly go out”, “I dress more casually now” and I’m thinking to myself when the hell did that happen! I’ve morphed into a homebody without even realising it (I guess that’s the thing about working from home). GOSH I can remember the time I never left the house without wearing some gorgeous, chunky gem necklace I guess it was the natural thing to do because where I used to work had a black uniform and I’m a colours girl! Anyway I literally just changed because statements 2 and 3 made me freak out a little, I feel better already! Unfortunately I left all my Jewellery at my parents house when I moved halfway around the world but when I visit them next i will be sure to reclaim them. PS Love the jewellery wall hanging idea, why do we put such pretty things in boxes!
Author
Sasha, thanks so much for your thoughtful response. So glad this piece resonated with you and reminded you of a simple action that can have you feel good, even if staying in. I’ve seen a few other jewelry hanging ideas and I might just write a blog about it soon.
Thanks so much for the mention in this and for the amazing research you did into the days of the weeks and stones that would align and enhance the days’ energy. I learned something new myself, especially about Venus’ day, Friday. This is an amazing way to choose jewelry to wear and I honestly cannot even imagine going out of my house on any day without jewelry on. I often wear what attracts me and resonates with me while I am getting dressed or some days, I also am guilty of matching what I wear to the colour scheme of the day. Turquoise seems to always be a favourite and I continue to wear it regardless of what other “colours” I am wearing in the day. Great article, Roslyn! Thanks for taking up my “challenge” to find out more about the planets aligned with the days of the week and how to choose gemstones that perfectly match up with them. Beautiful necklace offerings too!

You are most welcome Beverley Golden. I think the key to wearing gemstones is what ‘feels’ right for you. It could be aligning with the planets, color coordinating, energetically drawn to or your favorite.
You really made me think about what I wear and why I choose it. You have opened me up to new possibilities. Thank you.
Author
Most welcome Marlene. I believe we usually start with color coordinating, and it is possible to expand our selections based on other information. The key is to wear and enjoy.
This post is one that I am going to have to bookmark, Roslyn. Under Hindu Vedic Astrology, I wear a Yellow Topaz ring as a permanent talisman and I was aware of the fact under the same system, it is recommended to wear Pearls on a Monday and Diamonds of American Zircon on a Friday for luck and protection. Good to know my trusted Obsidian bracelet can be worn on Saturday which is also the day allotted to Shani. It makes perfect sense as Obsidian is a grounding stone and the more I think of it, well suited for Shani. Thank you!

Vatsala Shulka, I thought of you as I did the research and knew you practiced choosing your gemstones to align with the planets. There is so much information available regarding gemstones and Astrology to present to our readers. Glad you enjoyed this.
Thank you Roz – I am guilty as charged working at home mummy who never thinks to get my jewelry out! Your pieces are always stunning and you inspire me to make more of an effort – with great explanations, thank you!

Keri, It is understandable to not think of adding a necklace to an outfit when working from home. When I first retired from 30 years as a career counselor, I noticed I stopped wearing my jewelry, but I missed the feeling of ‘being dressed’. So, I made it a practice to select a necklace even when I knew I was not going anywhere. The impact was I felt like I was, and it felt good. So, try it on a few days of the week. Make it a habit. Your children & spouse might start noticing.
Roslyn, your jewelry is making me love Monday, what an exquisite piece, Moon. So beautiful all your work, I always Pin ’em! Thanks for sharing how The Talisman works, just awesome. Best 🙂
Author
What a lovely response. Thanks for the compliments and repins too.
Roslyn, I’ve never heard of talisman jewelry but think it is a great idea! Yes, when we work from home we’re not too likely to wear jewelry but why not? The pieces won’t wear out! It’s interesting to see your recommendations for each day of the week.
Author
Beth Niebuhr, Hope I gave you new ways to choose how to make use of the jewelry you own.
All the designs of necklaces really represent the best handmade jewelries especially prepared by you. Thanks for your constant interaction on the different recommendations or tips pertaining to the passion of the jewelry.
Author
Glad you find the tips useful.
You have such beautiful jewelry!! I love your necklaces. I usually only wear necklaces when going out, but I’m a daily earring wearer.
Author
Bobbi Raffin, that is exactly our point- wear your jewelry daily- it won’t wear out, i can make you feel really good- like you are ready for a big day. Try it!
I love the Thursday piece and can totally see wearing that all summer long here in So Cal.
Author
Thanks, Christie- The semi-precious stones in Catalina give off a tropical feel and are favorite colors for anyplace. Imagine being aligned with Jupiter and open to exploration. What a day you could have!
I really like the idea of adorning yourself with a new piece of jewelry every day. It’s almost like a symbolic celebration of a new day and a way to welcome and embrace the adventures that lie ahead. It keeps things new, fresh and exciting and what better way to draw this positive energy to you than wearing colours to match that vibration. When I worked in a corporate environment, I used to dread Mondays and would deliberately wear a bright outfit to help keep my energies up, so it’s interesting to see that pearls and moonstones are Monday’s choice. I love the blue crystal pendant and it would have been perfect for getting rid of the Monday Morning blues! Once again Roslyn, I love your display of jewelry and it would be pleasure to own all seven pieces to help balance my energy throughout the week! Thanks for a refreshing take on wearing jewelry.
Author
Michelle Williams,Thank you for your informative, inspirational comment and compliments. We really are about how women can appreciate and wear what they own. That way, when they see something new that fills in energetically or really captures their taste or lifestyle, they know they will wear it.
Thanks Roslyn, for a lovely post as always. And I am one of those who never or at least wears very little jewelry, because I am often very casual in my appearance. So these are good tips to remember to wear it more often…
Author
Katarina, Casual includes wearing a necklace. You go to many wine bars & tastings & places- dress in a way you feelmost comfortable but also add that extra touch with a necklace. Try it, you’ll like it.
As you already know, I love this article and love how you took a “suggestion” to create a piece that can offer inspiration and information to people who love jewelry! Love everything about what you researched and what you shared. The necklaces are outstanding as well. As always!
Author
Beverley Golden, as much as this piece was meant for women who love jewelry, we hope to encourage women who only wear jewelry for special occasions to broaden their usage. I notice in many of the responses, women do have some limiting beliefs around using their accesories to the fullest. Hope to impact a shift in that.
Hi Roz–loved the information about the qualities/energies of the different gemstones. You reminded me of one of my favorite stores at the beach in North Carolina…with each sale they include a card that describes the energy of each of the gemstones in the purchased piece of jewelry. Love it! I have at least three rule about jewelry: 1) You can never have enough. 2) You can where whatever you want whenever–if I want to wear pearls with sweatpants, I will. 3) I have to see all of my jewelry at a glance to make sure each piece gets its turn! 🙂 Thanks for the great article.
Author
Meghan Monaghan, we love your three rules. They make sense to us and were behind the intent of this piece. We include a description of the materials used. hmmm, we might add a bit more. Thanks for mentioning it.
I always thought of jewelry as an accent to an outfit but it’s interesting to read about different reasons etc to wear certain pieces.
Author
Michael Kawula,You are right in that jewelry is an accent to an outfit. It can also affect your mood and our goal was to provide new ways to help the wearer decide what to choose.
Never knew the information about gemstones being talismans or planets being associated with each day of the week, but I can relate to wearing jewelry that reminds me of others. After my mother passed, I took most of her collection (being her only daughter), and I love when I get compliments on them and can say, “It was my mom’s.”
Author
Carol Rundle, yes having memories through family jewelry is treasured. I know how much you appreciated your moms good taste in fashion and so I’m sure her collection of jewelry is priceless.
Great idea sort of like picking a different color blouse to wear each week. I don’t pick a different gem to wear each day but I’m quite a bracelet collector and I always have at least one and if I’m in a mood that I feel like I need more adornment, I wear 2 on each wrist. I’d rather wear a beautiful bracelet than a cute pair of shoes!
Author
Liz daRosa, Love your thought you would rather wear a beautiful bracelet than a cute pair of shoes. Might use it as a status post. We haven’t made many different style bracelets, but did sell most of the bracelet wraps made with magnetic closures. Have you seen them on our website?
I found this really interesting. I’m not a big jewelry wearer. I am usually in a pair of hoop earrings and my engagement ring but that’s it except for the very rare occasion when I “dress up” and don a necklace. I may need to explore the talisman concept.
Author
Coach Niquenya- you should try it- don’t save wearing necklaces just for dress up. You can feel dressed and ready to take on the world when you put on a necklace and stay home.
Based on what I see in your article, it should always be Monday in my world 🙂 Interesting read.

Thanks Erika for your comment.
Loved this post Roz, I could wear all of this jewellery! I find when I put jewellery on – especially stones, I feel like I’ve just been picked up a notch! I absolutely love the necklace I received from you, it was a great Mother’s Day gift from my kids 🙂
Author
Thanks so much Gilly for your response. That is the point of the article- jewelry can lift you up a notch. So happy you love your new necklace.
I love Moon Magic! I am guilty of… I have my favorites or the casual one. So, what would you suggest with shorts and a tshirt? I mean, when I do, I would wear one of the 4 silver necklaces with endless heart charms my boyfriend gave me… but what about all of those chunky, fancy or fun ones… can’t really wear them with shorts, t and flip flops.. I have all of mine organized and neat, and I often go through them and get rid of ones I don’t even think about wearing. I end up wearing some sort of cheap or semi cheap silver hoops and one of Josh’s necklaces or nothing at all. 🙁 I’ll keep trying though.. to make you proud! LOL
Author
Oh, Kristen Wilson, you make me proud just to be thinking of upping your jewelry usage. Just to help you out- You can wear chunky, fancy or fun necklace with jeans and a white blouse. It says- I’m going somewhere and I want to look top notch or my best or look at me. It brings attention to your beautiful face and who said you can’t wear a fun necklace with shorts & a tee? I would just be careful wearing a necklace when out on your bike.
love love love this post – all wonderful info and you are absolutely right on with observations and comments. I fall into the pattern of wearing the same, or no jewelry at all. Headed to my stash!!
Author
Deb Nelson, you got our point. Enjoy what you own- It won’t wear out- Change off & before you know it, you just might want something new.
Hi Roslyn,
Beautiful jewelry! I wear the same jewelry depending on the color scheme of my outfit for the day. I have one set of jewelry for dark clothes and one set for earth tones. .lol! If I leave the house without certain jewelry pieces, I may turn around to retrieve it. I change up my jewelry ensemble on special occasions.
Author
Sharise Hemby, I understand your routine and encourage you to try changing things up abit. You might be surprised by the shift in your mood as you glance at yourself.
Hi Roz,
Awesome post! I wish I wore more jewelry but I do not 🙁 I love all of your products and I would love to have a few of them in my collection someday 🙂 Thanks for always sharing your fantastic products! Love the creativity as well 🙂
Author
Well, Joan Harrington, we would love for you to have even one of our necklaces in your collection. What do you need to assist you to wear and enjoy what you already own? Perhaps you would also enjoy buying one of ours to gift. Thanks for your compliment and comment.
I wear only earrings and rings as I’m sensitive to metals around my neck. I wish I could wear necklaces but never take the time to figure out what types of metal I can tolerate. I do love the idea of pairing my earrings with the days of the week. Thank you for sharing this!
Author
Many women have metal sensitivity Lori Ann DeLappe-Grondin, therefore we use pewter clasps and mostly create necklaces with beads. Glad we gave you a new idea for your earring selection. Thanks for your comment.
I have many necklaces in my jewelry box but I have some preferences and I simply wear just a few that I love most. Roz, you encouraged me to take a closer look and change up things a little bit, thank you!
Author
Delia, so happy to have given you a new idea as you generate so many about blogging.Try switching things up a bit and see if it impacts your mood.
I’m not much of a jewelry wearer. I have a few special pieces I’ll wear on special occasions, but life has gotten in the way of enjoying them like I used to. 🙁 I have such sensitive skin everything I used to wear and love seems to make my skin break out 🙁 Also, I have a little dude who LOVES to pull apart my favorite bracelets and necklaces – the one pieces I would wear more regularly if I could trust wearing them with a little monkey around. 😉
I’ll just have to admire for now 😀 Someday I’ll have the kind of collection you’ve described, with amazingly awesome necklaces and other pieces to really enjoy 😀
Author
Katrina Moody, I remember what it is like to have children you are holding who love to tug at your necklace. Maybe though you don’t have to save the ones you love for special occasions. Think about wearing a necklace when you are meeting a friend, a networking session, dinner, conference. And then take it off when you return home. As I said to another reader, we use pewter for women with sensitive skin, so see if that material works for you.
What a lovely idea! Something different for every day of the week. And, of course, I love your jewelry, too.
Author
Yes, Jackie, another way to help women enjoy what they own which also leaves room for just one more, knowing it will be worn.
I never knew that the days of the week had certain gems/stones…maybe that explains how some days are better than others 🙂
Author
Beth Blacker, it might explain why some days are more ‘crazy’ than others.
I usually wear the same but after reading your post I will mix things up a little. Great selection!
Author
Good to hear Vicky, that we will inspire you to mix it up. Thanks for the compliment.
I love the idea of using your jewellery as a secret weapon and choosing stones to suit the day. I have my jewellery displayed as a work of at as you suggested so I can enjoy seeing it even when I’m not wearing it.
Author
Tamuria, So great you took our suggestion to make your jewelry visible. It always made a difference for me.
