Spring 2014 jewelry trends: Jewelry this season comes in bright colors, strong shapes and many sizes, but it’s the bright colors which really define the season.

Can you see yourself updating your spring wardrobe with some colorful jewelry to get you on trend?

Colorful jewelry comes in many styles

2013 saw a resurgence in statement jewelry with beaded pieces taking front stage. It’s safe to say this trend isn’t going away in 2014.  You can sport the retro look your mom’s generation wore so well or more modern takes on beaded jewelry with intricate designs and color combinations to die for.

Even professional women from all walks of life have taken to wearing colorful jewelry –  we see it today on newscasters, mayors, ‘The First Lady’,  attorneys and judges alike.

How to wear jewelry: rules don’t always matter

As a professional woman perhaps your preference is for understated silver, diamonds, gold or chain jewelry, but you can still exude professional excellence without being conservative; do it by adding a touch of colorful feminine chic.

Spend a little time selecting a couple of pieces of new jewelry every season – ones that will dress up or dress down outfits to suit your needs.

By doing this you’ll find that you have all the accessories you need for work, date night, a girlfriend dinner, a networking event, conference or even a run to the grocery store.

‘Introducing the Spring 2014 Colors’

Earth and Moon Design Spring 2014 Collection

This season as you walk through boutiques and department stores or browse fashion magazines, you will see they are all showing you big bold colors.

At Earth and Moon Design we concentrate on making beaded jewelry from semi-precious stones, artisan lampwork beads and Czech glass, which lend themselves to color and versatility.

Two neutrals – a cooler one – Paloma – and a warmer one – Sand , which go beautifully against a more vibrant color like Celosia Orange.

Three pastels – light green Hemlock, romantic vintage Violet Tulip, and tranquil Placid Blue. Jewelry made of Abalone is big this season because of the way in which it incorporates shades of blues, greens and browns for the spring season’s palette.

Warm brights are spicy Cayenne, energetic Celosia Orange, and sunny Freesia. Accessories in these colors tend to go well with neutral shades. But having said that I saw a beautiful young business woman walking down the street today with a freesia jacket paired with a dazzling and placid blue skirt. She reminded me of the gorgeous spring days we have to come and brought an instant smile to my face.

Cooler brights – Dazzling Blue and Radiant Orchid. Wearable in so many variations either together or alone as the Radiant Orchid is in this necklace. In the image below you can see how the necklace would bring a little pizzazz and life to that classic tan suit.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  3. I loved reading this post and getting all excited about Spring by looking at these colors. It made me realize that I should really look at the clothes I plan to wear this Spring and see what colors I could use as an excuse to buy some new necklaces to coordinate. I am so used to wearing the same things all the time.

  4. Julie, You so got the point of this blog. Thank you. I often suggest women do a few new things as we approach a new season: look at clothing you own and enjoy wearing and switch off the accessories. It costs much less to buy a new necklace for a look and outfit shift, than to buy a new outfit. Often changing things up, gives you a lift too.

  5. I am a “spring” so the entire color palette works for me! My favorite is coral and turquoise. I love wearing brights because I think it makes a woman look younger and naturally brightens up the skin tone. I also enjoy mixing my colors, wearing a beige dress and letting the jewelry “pop!” I have a stylist and she has taught me well! Love all the visuals in this blog.
