New Season, New Reason

Roslyn Fashion & Jewelry: Your Life in Color about beads, beaded Jewelry, designs, emotions, handcrafted, inspirational

Let’s Face It!

No matter how much we love the jewelry we already have, buying a new piece feels wonderful.  What goes through your mind when a new necklace catches your eye? Sometimes we search for justifications like: I can buy a gift for my sister, or, it is a new season & the trendy colors have changed. Or for example, a lovely woman I met once confided to me that it costs less to spruce up an outfit with a new necklace than to buy a whole new outfit!

I COULDN’T AGREE MORE

None of us are looking to break the bank.  Buying a new necklace for an outfit you already love makes good economic sense. And when you’re a woman who cares about her appearance, choosing a new style of necklace can bring it’s own emotional rewards. Some necklaces make you feel regal or glamorous, earthy or carefree.

ONE-Of-A-Kind

There are just so many tantalizing beads and stones, in amazing colors and textures, that if you wore a different necklace every day forever–you’d never have to wear the same combination twice!  We have made  thousands of beaded necklaces & never repeated a color design. That’s what it means when I say every necklace we make is one of a kind!cropped-image_1-watermarked-purple-lariat

So play along with me here and imagine yourself wearing one of our necklaces.  Maybe choose a style you haven’t considered before.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  1. Definitely some beautiful pieces here. I’m definitely a necklace gal so it was fun imagining wearing these. 🙂

  2. I’m loving the necklace in the middle and imagining I’m wearing it to dinner at a seaside resort. It looks beautiful on my sun-kissed skin 🙂

  4. What a wonderful technique! I loved browsing through each design, imagining myself in each one. How cool was that! I agree with you – buying a new piece and maybe something out of our comfort zone is uplifting and actually “freeing”. Loved the post!

You are so welcome Alexandra. I hope someday that I sell so many that I can afford to gift more than I currently do. I must say, next to getting a sale, I really appreciate the accolades.IT keeps me going & someday I do believe the sales will happen, especially on line.

  7. Hi Roz! I love your designs! I used to design earrings and necklaces, and I made my own jewelry for the wedding. Your friend was right – it is so much easier to add a new necklace than to buy a new outfit. And the same necklace can adorn so many outfits. I think I’ll go play in my bead box, tonight… I have so many pieces, yet I still make more, from time to time. It’s relaxing. 🙂

Fortunately, even though it is my business, I still find beading relaxing. I love the unexpected result of combining different materials. Glad you still play with beads Simona.

Just want to clarify Diane, that what prompted me to write the piece was that I was looking at some outfits in my closet for a few upcoming events & then at some necklaces I had just made. Decided I didn’t need to buy more clothes, just change off the jewelry. You are right in that is might have been good marketing (ploy?) but that wasn’t my intent. The reality also is that despite the views no on line sales.

  9. Very beautiful designs! It is quite practical to spruce up an outfit with a new necklace since it is even more interesting than buying a new outfit each time. Do you actually use a certain guide for your color combinations or you make the designs, color and all out of sheer creativity?

  10. I loved reading this! It is soooooo true about how just a necklace can really spruce up a whole outfit. Oh my gosh, I have TONS of accessories that I love to wear even with the same old outfit… it gives it a whole new feel and look 🙂

  11. My daughter always seems to have a new piece of jewellery on everytime I see her. As for me, I tend to wear the same ones over and over. I should change as there’s so much choice out there, and I loved some of yours 🙂

Thanks Kath. Maybe when in the mood to try something you , you might ask your daughter to help you select a new necklace or show you how to change off.

  12. Roz, my television was on when I woke up this morning (guess I was tired!) and a rerun of the Nate Berkus Show was showing. He had Nina Garcia, the Fashion Editor of Marie Claire, doing a segment. She was being asked how to keep up with style when on a budget and she promoted buying clothes with simple lines … and buying new accessories regularly to bring them up to date. I thought of your necklaces!

  13. I love one of a kind pieces, especially in jewelry. And I completely agree that it’s a great way to spruce up an old outfit. Distinctive jewelry gives you a chance to experiment with different colors and styles too, which is also fun. Very pretty pieces you have here!

  14. It’s so true what you say about that excited feeling of purchasing a new necklace. I love the feeling of it seeming like I’m dressed in a different outfit merely by changing what’s around my neck. I must say that looking at the variety of necklaces you show on this post, it is truly amazing how gorgeous everything is that you make. You and Beth are extremely talented!

Thanks so much Julie for your compliment. I am sometimes also amazed at our ability to combine different materials & color combos & not repeat a necklace. It keeps our creativity fresh & dynamic.
