Inspirational Fashion Quotes That Resonate With Us

Roslyn Fashion & Jewelry: Your Life in Color accessorizing, Fashion Quotes, inspirational, Style

A new year brings not only resolutions, goals and plans, but a flurry of inspirational and motivational quotes. For the past year, we’ve started our social media day with an inspirational quote on Facebook and have fans who regularly read and enjoy them. They seem to help folks get into a mindset for the day. Many Facebook pages and Twitter profiles are devoted purely to inspirational quotes. Clearly they are well received and even sought after, but it seems the same quotes and inspirations show up repeatedly.

So we started searching for less common quotes from famous fashion designers and celebrities – individuals with larger than life personalities and strong opinions about fashion and life. We’ve picked ones where their words and perspectives resonate with us and contribute to our company’s creative process designing jewelry.

“Stay true to what makes you happy, because that always ends up producing the BEST result.” ~Ashley Olsen  (Born in 1986, Ashley Olsen along with her twin Mary-Kate began as child actors and went on to build a vast media and fashion empire by the age of 21.)

We know what that feels like as we design and redesign a necklace selecting from hundreds of choice semi-precious beads; experimenting with style, length and overall wearability, until we are really happy with the result. A necklace can remain on the work table for a long time, unfinished but looked at often, added to, or changed until the right end is achieved.

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” ~Coco Chanel  (Born 1883, she was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand and the only fashion designer listed on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.)

This fashion quote resonates with us as we are constantly inspired by nature and the environment. It’s as though fashion is the physical expression of the Zeitgeist now squared via the internet. We recently used this quote in a graphic and posted on our Facebook page:Coco Chanel- Fashion Everwhere quote

“Shoes are just a pedestal. What interests me is the power of the woman who wears them.” ~Christian Louboutin.  (Born in 1963 in Paris, he is a French footwear designer whose dramatic footwear has incorporated shiny, red-lacquered soles that has become his signature.)

One might say that the very shoes a woman stands in is the foundation of her power and strength. The rest of her ensemble, especially her accessories, are an extension of that strength. We design for the professional woman who appreciates unique artisanal pieces that express her individuality and complement her polished presentation.

“There’s nothing interesting about looking perfect-You lose the point. You want what you’re wearing to say something about you. ABOUT WHO YOU ARE” ~Emma Watson  (Born 1990, is an English actress and model who rose to prominence portraying Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films.)

We design with this sentiment in mind – creating pieces that appeal to different types of women or even just different facets of the same, wonderfully complex woman:

Style is...

‘Syle’ from EarthandMoonDesign

The romantic Anabelle is an 18″ Lucite flower necklace (the upper most.)
The earthy Twiggy is a 20″ agate and chain fringe necklace (the middle.)
The glamorous Solaris is an 18″ Chunky Citrine necklace (the bottom most.)

That is why jewelry has a special place in our lives – it appeals to the many emotional aspects of who we are and expresses those emotions with its beauty. We feel fortunate to have found this creative path and hope the fruits of our endeavors delight you as well.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

Well, I look forward to your comments and appreciate your steadfast readership. So many people love motivational and inspirational quotes and it is easy to post a morning one daily. From time to time I have sprinkled in fashion quotes and will do more of them.

  2. WOW! This is another amazing blog by Roz. Today you have given me food for thought about Nature’s fashion. I had never really thought about that before. I love the idea and I can hardly wait for the sun to rise so I can look outside and see the blue sky and the sunrise and the green trees (some of which are beginning to lose their leaves) and the desert day.

  3. Thanks for sharing these quotes and how you have reacted to them. My favorite is from Emma Watson. I agree that looking perfect, should that even be possible, is less desirable than showing something of who you are. Interesting that Coco Chanel made the list of 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

Beth Niebuhr, so often interesting facts come out of our research for our blog. It was difficult to select just a few so I will probably use many in Facebook posts.

  4. Love these perspectives on fashion and how you have woven them into your jewelry business, Roz!

I know that I enjoy the quotes you share — and especially the lesser known ones — thanks!

  5. Love these quotes and how they become inspiration to you and how you design your wonderful jewelry. Especially love the quote by Coco Chanel, as I do see how nature and the environment are key influences in both the stones you choose to put together, plus the colour schemes you create, which do remind us of the wondrous beauty of the natural world around us. Very much enjoyed this post, as always, Roslyn.

Beverley Golden, I look forward to your reading as I glean from your comments if the blog communicated what we intended. Like any creativity, it takes being present, editing, polishing, revising, research, etc to produce the end result. Been working collaboratively on recent blogs with my partner/daughter who prefers to stay behind the scenes . Am pleased by them and by your comments.

  6. I so appreciate your link between fashion, accessory and strength. And how each woman’s outer wear is an extension of not only her inner strength, but inner identity. You leave me thinking about this in my own search for expression and purpose in my business as well. Thank you for the connection and your eloquent words.

  7. Roz, I loved reading about your sensibilities as a jewelry designer, about where you get your inspirations from. It seems to flow from you like water. Hmm, could this be a new necklace?

Thanks Carol Rundle, the water flow is more like two rivers merging as many of our inspirations and blogs are collabortive between my partner, my daughter, and myself.

  8. The quote is right, there is nothing good about being perfect. If things in life were perfect, then things in my opinion would be boring, or at least how I look at it. Thanks for sharing as always!

  9. Love reading the quotes! I love how you design for professional women who seek to be set apart. I always aim to achieve this when I go to business or networking meetings. Sure, I dress professional. But I love wearing a statement necklace or accessory to set me apart. I see your jewelry does exactly that.

Thanks Holly Jean for your comment and seeing how our jewelry is created for the professional woman. Some women prefer to wear statement necklaces to special events and select less elaborate beaded jewelry to coordinate with an outfit when going to a business meeting. That’s why we have a varied collection. We can set a woman apart with our one-off designs.

  11. Another great post Roslyn… you know what I like about your blogs…. you really think outside the box. You aren’t just promoting your beautiful jewelry but are finding things that would be relevant to people, every day and finding a way to showcase your jewels… GREAT job!

  13. Good article! I saw “What Not to Wear” yesterday (my guilty pleasure) for two hours. I love the show because the hosts help women make the most of who they are, right here and right now. And accessories are the place where women can really make a statement.

  14. I like how you relate your quotes to your work. Seems they can apply to life in general. I have a list of favorite quotes. I think I will dig them out, dust them off, and insert one into blog from time to time. Thank you for the inspiration. Your jewelry is beautiful!

  15. I love the Ashley Olsen quote… I’ve never been one to follow fashion though when I was younger, I started going to school for fashion design. It wasn’t exactly my “thing”! Your jewelry designs are very beautiful and I love that there are so many different styles for different tastes!

Cher, it has been suggested that we limit our designs to collections that can be reproduced, and your comment is exactly why w have chosen to create many styles for all the different tastes .

  16. I love this post! I often will find inspiration in Coco Chanel’s quotes. She was such an intelligent and intuitive woman. A real inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

  17. I have very little confidence with fashion having been brought up by my elderly father from the age of 6. I love the fact that your quotes do not really look at garments at all but rather at the person inside. I completely agree with this. Fashion for me is about how my clothes make me feel rather than how I look. I often find that when I am happy in what I wear I will get more compliments than when I wear what I feel I should be wearing. I love your choice of quotes as they speak to something beyond fashion and more about how to live life itself.

Caroline, so pleased by your reply. We do think about the person on the inside and aim to enhance that natural beauty on the outside. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment.

  18. I love this one:

I am so dyslexic when it comes to three things — fashion, cars and sports. So I count on people like you to help keep me educated!

Christine Marshall, from images I’ve seen of you, I can’t imagine you not having a fashion sense. And if there is ever a time you have an outfit you want to match jewelry to, just shoot me a line. We will be happy to help.
