Inner and Outer Beauty

Beaded Purple and Silver Necklace

Do you believe that time away from your work can unleash your inner beauty?

What does it really mean to take a break? Does it mean  going away for a weekend, having lunch out with a girlfriend,  going to the movies or walking away from your computer  or taking a long walk? Given I tend to be a workaholic, I’ve been reading about and finding that taking a break can be a big benefit from all we may love to do and can unleash our inner beauty.  Why is that?

Me Time

Worth examining!

What are you like when you don’t take the time, trouble or effort to take a break? I know how wound up I can get and perhaps short in the patience department with those who I see regularly. We all know how important it is to eat properly, exercise and take the time to relax.  Does this help create beauty inside as well as outside?

Fresh Perspective

Stepping away can give us an opportunity to reflect, breathe deeply, gain a new perpective on what we are so involved with and often the result is a level of peace that brings us self-confidence.  Inner confidence exudes a natural beauty and radiates outward. Coupled with taking care of your physical self, choosing the right clothes and accessories draws like minded individuals toward you. Then  beauty is balanced, coming from inside and outside.

What I Noticed

We do go away every month for two nights to satisfy my husbands interest (gambling and I enjoy it too). I notice that I don’t think about my to do list or my business until I am on the way  home.   My mind had a much needed break and I jot down notes as my husband drives us home. My ideas seem fresh, sometimes even clever and I’m invigorated, excited to return to jewelry design or to my social media platforms. I feel a renewed confidence in the gift and joy our handmade jewelry brings to others.

Self confidence is a good thing to have and shows in the way a woman walks, talks, holds and executes herself. When you wear fashion and accessories that you choose and it draws compliments, it always boosts your confidence.  With beautiful materials and the right design connected to the right person you get more than a new piece of jewelry.

So take a few minutes and visit our website, We  made a few changes so you have a larger view of our unique designs. You might wish to get a head start on a Valentine selection.  It doesn’t have to be red or a heart theme to express love and appreciation for yourself or another. You get a wearable work of art that you chose and is as unique as you are.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

    1. Thanks Tina for compliment. Sometimes life throws curves at us and we have to adjust. Isn’t it wonderful to carve out “me time” when we didn’t think we could?

    1. I was always a busy full time working mom and always had “me Time” Norma. Some folks thought I should stay home more but I knew what I needed. Still do to this day and have many interests I pursue.

  1. I agree with you change can be beautiful. With change, sky’s the limit. People always view changes as a bad thing but I think it’s good because it allows you to grow as a person. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love taking that special time away with my 5 girlfriends. We usually take a break to the Oregon Coast and rent a house. We do our crafts, read, laugh, go for walks on the beach. It just refreshes your life. Your jewelry is beautiful!

  3. Nice post!! Taking a small break is a great reset. I find it allows new ideas to come and a fresh angle to be developed.

On the related note: Fashion and accessories evoke an emotion for me. I exude more confidence and positivity when I wear things that make me feel great. These things are important.

  4. A.Lynn Jesus, couldn’t agree with you more. Fashion, jewelry, accessoried is an emtional trigger. Some women just know how to enhance themselves and walk with confidence. Glad you shared this.

  5. I know when I have been putting all my energy into something for a period of time, I do require some “down” time as I call it. It is not on a regular schedule.

    1. Thanks Jessica. All my life I enjoyed sharing and telling stories from my life. When I started blogging I knew I had to stay with my natural style. So glad you enjoy it and my jewelry.

  6. Taking a break and going away obviously offers us a different physical perspective to whatever we normally do. When we can also disconnect mentally, that’s where the refreshing really starts. I would imagine how many things become triggers for your jewelry when you change environments, whether color combinations, materials, or whatever. Keep traveling, Roz. Your jewelry is proof that it works!

    1. Oh Sharon, it takes one to recognize one. I do find inspiration all around me and snap away so I can be retriggered. The last place one would expect me to find inspiration is in a casino (which we frequent monthly), however a lot of thought goes into creating color combos and flashy eye catching visuals and I do find myself thinking how that would look in a necklace.

  7. Love it and it so true. When we step away from our business world and be all in, all fully present in the me world and the family world for a day or even a week, we come back all brand new.

  8. What an inspiring article, Roslyn. You are so right. We all need to take a break from work from time to time not only physically, but as Sharon states so eloquently, “When we can also disconnect mentally, that’s where the refreshing really starts.” You graphics and jewelry are beautiful touches to this entire piece. Beautiful!

  9. Taking time for oneself is really important. I learned to do this recently. I had to get out of the house, so I began going to a gym to help clear the mind.

Taking breaks is crucial to the success of any business owner. You can’t be “on” 24/7.

  10. Roslyn,

This is a great post! So many of us get caught up in the every day things that we forget about taking a step back, often because there’s so much to do. Not realizing that when we take that break, whether it’s during the day, or a much longer break, we end up rejuvenating ourselves and come back, as Marilyn said, “brand new” and ready to take things on.

  11. Roslyn –
What a refreshing post! I just discovered your blog, and look forward to many more hours of reading pleasure here.

When I read that you have worked a long career, and then took up making jewelry and blogging after you retired, I found that so encouraging. I just retired in December 2013, and I have been making jewelry plus just now I am blogging.

I am learning so much these days, and I am trying to develop my unique voice. You are an inspiration to me.

    Thank you,

    1. Post

So nice to hear from you LeAllyson Meyer. Blogging is something I added after we rebranded in Nov. It is a way to bring traffic to my website, or so they say. Happy to hear I am inspiring as it is one of my goals to inspire others that it is never too late to start again. During my years as a career counselor, I saw too often people living work life unfulfilled and hoped to be involved with their passion after retirement. I want them to know it is possible. So happy to have you as a reader and I look forward to hearing from you. Best of luck in your endeavors. If on Facebook, become my fan, message me your page, website and I’ll support you as much as I can.
