Are you one of the many believers in the healing properties of gemstones? Throughout the ages and in folklore stories, gemstones are said to offer mystic healing to the wearer. Healing stones, crystals and gemstones come from one source-our earth. Created from earth’s inner core, healing stones have gone through a geologic process of heating, cooling and displacement on their way to their present form. Each stone is made up of minute crystals in constant motion thus emitting an energy frequency.
Below is a chart from Positive Med listing the healing properties of gemstones. In this article, I will highlight a few of the more popular stones; used for their benefits and used frequently in our jewelry designs.
Amethyst

Amethyst seems to attract and resonate with so many people, whether or not they believe in the healing properties of crystals.
It’s commonly known as the master healing stone: a gemstone of mediation, peace, balance, change, protection, enlightenment, courage and inner strength.
It aids in reduction of insomnia, arthritis, pain relief and circulatory problems and helps with addiction and stress.
It’s one of my favorite stones, as you can probably guess, because it is naturally purple.
[hr]Agate

Agate is one of the oldest stones in recorded history and has been used in jewelry design since Babylonian times. It is a banded form of Quartz with no two agates being the same and has many different names. It is known to ward off storms, attract strength and protect you from bad dreams, stress and energy drains.
Agate is used for stomach upsets and to help change our level of acceptance of a particular emotion.
Often it is recommended to carry an agate when you have an important decision to make.
We love using Agates where you can see the inside of the slab. It’s a glimpse into the layers of earth.
[hr]Garnet

Garnet is known as the root chakra stone and meant to be excellent for manifestation. It is used to ground one’s dreams in reality and bring abundance, prosperity and realization to those dreams.
It is also known to promote romantic love, passion, sensuality and intimacy. It energizes, revitalizes and balances energy and aids the heart, blood and lungs.
Whenever I work with Garnet I feel romantic, be it the richness of the color or my knowledge of its properties.
[hr]Jade

Jade creates a positive attitude toward money and can bring money into your life. Suggested use is to hold it when making important business decisions and to use the energies to contemplate your course of action.
Jade strengthens mental facilities and assists in clear reasoning. It has a healing property as a protective stone guarding against accidents and misfortune. It comes in many colors and can also be used to attract love.
There is a wonderful smooth texture to Jade; when I use it in a design, I know just how it will feel against skin.

We, at Earth and Moon Design, enjoy using gemstones for their texture and coloration and beneficial healing properties. Sometimes the gemstone is the star of the necklace; sometimes it is used to enhance the other materials with its organic beauty.
Which gemstone would you like to know more about or see in a design?

What an interesting article, Roslyn. I’d heard of the healing properties but it is fun to see them. I would think that these properties may influence which gemstones people prefer in their jewelry.

Thanks for your comment Beth Niebuhr, most people who believe in healing prperties of stones like to carry a small stone in their pocket or bag. In terms of jewelry, they might gravitate toward their birthstone. If attracted to a beaded necklace and it has a birthstone or favorite gemstone, that becomes a plus.
OH I love crystals I use them and so do my kids!!!

Danielle Brogna- in what way do you use them?
Great post Roz. I especially love what is written about garnet since that is my birth stone. I found all of the descriptions so interesting since I didn’t know anything about the stones and their “personalities.”
Author
Thanks Julie, like using the term ‘personalities’. Maybe it is why you are so lovng?
Very intriguing post. I enjoyed reading about every stone and their healing properties. I will be keeping this in mind as I wear my jewelry from now on. You create very unique and beautiful pieces.
Fascinating read. I love colored stones — emeralds, amethyst, garnet, sapphires. Now I know what to wear when I want to boost my power. Thanks so much!

Glad I could help boost your power Jackie Harder.
Another great post and such beautiful stones.
I honestly must say that I had no earthly idea that they had those effects on us. Hmm. Good to know. Plus, I’m with you… I LOVE purple and amethyst is a fav of mine too…had no idea on the qualities in amethyst.

Kristen Wilson, wrote a post a few weeks ago ;Want to know about Gemstones? https://earthandmoondesign.com/want-know-gemstones/. Two things showed up- how many people didn’t know much about them and how interested many were in the healing properties. Hence this follow-up post.
I love Amethyst. I keep a bowl of stones on my desk and I love to look at the colors. I will have to look at them more closely and see if any of them match your guid.
Author
Yes Ines, Amethyst is my favorite. I can see why you would love having stones in a bowl to look at and touch.
I love gemstones for their beauty but am not one who believes they have healing power other than the beauty brings happiness and pleasure. Happiness and pleasure have a definite effect on health.

Nice way to think about alternative effects of gemstones Pat Moon.
I’ve heard about the healing properties and I keep saying I am going to test them out, but never do. Thanks for the information.

Hope you do try them out Yakini.
I admire the look of gemstones, but have never really gotten on board with the healing properties. Gemstones are amazingly beautiful and they look great in the pieces you make

Thanks Veronica for your compliment. I know you have great taste.
Had no idea these stones did anything other than look nice. Interesting to learn
Thanks for sharing the healing properties of gemstones. Their importance cannot be overemphasized. Indeed, I love this post, Roslyn!
This reminds me of a tv show where they showed how a certain machine can trace the energy from a gem stone. It’s very interesting to watch how energy flows from the gem stone itself.

Interesting bit of info. Thanks Edmund S. Lee
These are great list of gemstones and their healing powers. We can easily have a quick look at it when deciding what stones on our jewelry we would like to buy. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Almost every stone has healing properties. I’m sure I’ll write about others in future. What is your favorite Rochefel?
Love this Roslyn. I resonate with different frequencies and usually find the amethyst, crystal and quartz among these. I have several in my ‘treatment’ room that I use with clients 🙂 When I choose my jewelry it is not necessarily the type of stone, perhaps more how it ‘feels’ to me at the time. Always happy with the choice! Love what you are doing and how good you feel about doing it 🙂

Thanks so much for your comment about how gemstones feel to you and your relationship to the stones.
Wow Roz, I got quite the education about gemstones today! Amethyst is my birthstone, so I was familiar with that one, as well as jade and garnet. Didn’t know about holding the jade when making business decisions though – I’ll remember that! Thanks – really enjoyed this post 🙂

Thanks Dawn Lanier,
Guess who also got an education doing the research.Glad you liked it.
Can you tell me about tormaline? I recently had a miscarriage at 10 was and that would have been the birthstone of my baby. I want to get some jewelry to honor the child I lost. I’m not a big fan of most Opal, so Tormaline is what I’m looking at. Thank you.

There are three varieties of the gemstone Tourmaline: Pink, Green, and Black. Following is a brief overview of each of their beneficial properties. We suggest you follow your heart to decide what’s right for you.
Pink Tourmaline is a primary stone of the Heart Chakra that encourages compassion and gentleness during periods of growth and change.
Pink Tourmaline is associated with the emotions, Green Tourmaline is beneficial in one’s physical being. Together they link to the higher self and are believed to bring true joy to one’s life and relationships.
Pink Tourmaline is one of the most loving stones for children and provides comfort to them.
Green Tourmaline is a rejuvenating stone that is connected to Nature’s green energy. It attracts luck, success, abundance and prosperity.
It turns negative energy into positive and encourages a feeling of gratitude. It inspires compassion, tenderness, patience, and nurtures a sense of belonging.
Green crystal energy is used to re-balance the Heart Chakra, helping us understand our own needs and emotions clearly.
Black Tourmaline is a stone of purification, cleansing the emotional body of negative thoughts, anxieties, anger or feelings of unworthiness.
Black Tourmaline is a powerful, protective and grounding stone that furthers the ability to remain radiant in the darkest of circumstances.
