How To Manage Style?

Set a Budget: look at more expensive items that you wouldn’t spend but know you would like and then search for a similar look at a lower price.

Invest in Basic Items- what are basic items?

1. Great fitting pair of jeans

2. Tailored black slacks that wears and washes well

3. A jacket that goes well with jeans or slacks

4. Shoes– good comfy pair and a dressier pair.

These become your basics to build upon as you expand your wardrobe. It also has you look instantly put together. It becomes a great comfort to know you have exactly the right basics and what remains for you is to choose your tops and accessories.

Change Fashion into Your Style

What people do with fashion and style is their own creativity.  You are your own canvas  so what you do with fashion is your creativity. Let it be unique, just like our jewelry designs are unique. When you select a one-of-a-kind handmade necklace from Earth and Moon Design, you know you are adding a beaded necklace that will make you look like a CEO without breaking the bank. Your outfit will go ‘POP’ and you will instantly have a style of your own.

Watch out and don’t get caught up in them or invest much. Only chose those trends that feel right for you,  so that when you wear them, you are comfy.

How Long Can My Clothes Last?

I have a friend whose basic/classic wardrobe lasts 10-20 years. How? She takes care of them. She hangs them up after wearing. Folds her tops neatly on a shelf. Her closet isn’t jammed up or laying in a heap on a chair.

By following the above ideas and tips you will be able to stay true to your own style, your pocketbook and you can acquire a fashionable feeling. The same applies to your accessories: your jewelry, scarves, shoes, handbags.  Let it be unique for YOU and yet identifiable for others.  . We can help you.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  1. You’ve shared some great tips, Roslyn! I wear what makes me feel good. When I was working in the corporate world, I bought beautiful clothes…as they say, “you get what you pay for.” I still have most of my favorite pieces and I mix and match. Mind you, working from home, I’m usually in my blue jeans or a long peasant style dress. 🙂

    1. I imagine you wore what made you feel good in the corporate world as well. I also think you always look good as you have a natural beauty, smile, style and shape.

    2. I imagine you wore what made you feel good in the corporate world as well. I also think you always look good as you have a natural beauty, smile, style and shape.

  2. It doesn’t matter what i choose, my “fashion consultant” wife tells me what to wear.. lol she has style and i really don’t.. I am a jeans and t-shirt person.

    1. Kungphoo- you sound just like my hubby. Most of the time I let him be in his jeans and polos. Even when I make him pack chinos and a button down, I say, OK you dont have to change. He will when it’s really important to me. I love how he looks regardless. At 81 he is “FIT”.

  3. roslyn-i love your concept here and how this post is laid out. very easy to follow and very inspiring. thanks so much for sharing!

  4. I like to wear block colors for work / business, but what attracted my attention in your blog was that image about sparkling a bit more. I usually add sparkle with jewelry. I still make my own necklaces and earrings and buy items when I absolutely love them. During the holidays I finally had time to make new ones – and guess what: I used sparkling beads! It must be a new phase in my life… 🙂

  5. Trying to keep up with all the new styles for each year hurts the pocketbook. I try to find items that are comfortable and I feel good wearing. If I worked in an office, I would be more selective for sure. I do love lots of color!

  6. When I first moved to Europe, I was amazed at how much many of the women spent on their wardrobe “basics.” But then I realized how long they expected them to last, updating with auxiliary pieces … plus accessories, of course. In the end, they probably spend less … and look beautifully put together. That’s where your necklaces come in, Roz … 😉

    1. Thanks Sharon, now tell that to all the women. I so want my jewelry to be owned and worn- sure I want to make money selling it, but it’s more important to me that they be seen, worn, loved and treasured. That’s why I am doing a giveaway contest on my FB page- giving away earrings BUT they do have to guess the colors of my new wardrobe.

  7. Hi Lorii, Everyone knows I love purple and a new color combination for me is to combine purple with teal or turquoise. Also love gray and turquoise. Although I have black great fitting pants and different black necklines, I don’t gravitate to black.

    1. Yvonne, I tend to do a mix of ‘better’ clothes and inexpensive ones . I shop in Chicos and Coldwater Creek and then in Kohls. ITry as I might, I still like to have many choices, so this keeps me balanced and of course, only when everything is on sale.

  8. “A- “STYLE isn’t just what you wear. It’s about HOW YOU LIVE”- Lily Pulitzer” …this is my style. Great insight into style. I keep my clothes for a long time, especially the basics. A new top, blouse or jacket (and jewelry) can go a long way toward feeling right in style.

  9. Great post, Roslyn! I love your graphic with the quote, “Accessories are your best friends… they always fit!” This is a perfect statement. We can all have fashion, but style, that is where we can be our own unique selves is so true. Again, great article, Roslyn!
