Going Somewhere? Jewelry Trends Winter 2014

Roslyn Fashion & Jewelry: Your Life in Color Beach vacation, beaded Jewelry, Olympic party, skiing, Vacation

At the most recent fashion shows, the hot jewelry trends – winter 2014 – seen on the runway were Hammered Gold, Brooches, Statement Necklaces, Dark or Oxidized Metals and Stone Jewelry. These items look fabulous on the models and maybe you could even see yourself wearing an amazing style. We have probably been rushing around from Thanksgiving, through Christmas and to now, and it might be time for a winter getaway, after all, it is President’s week. But you are not sure how you will spend this next week or where you want to go so how can you decide what jewelry you need or want.

Escape  Winter Blues

The calendar says there is still over a month of winter and if you are suffering from the winter blues, escaping to a warm sunny locale can be just the right move to make. We usually don’t need to pack much; bathing attire, shorts and tees, casual dinner clothes , a light weight jacket for cooler  nights and maybe one really nice outfit. But you are away- on a vacation and you know you really like to take some extra time (which you have) to look special in the evening. You can relax after a day at the beach or around the pool, take a nap, then a long shower and prepare for going out. Even if you only packed 2 skirts or slacks with a couple of different tops, if you take along some special necklaces, your outfit perks up. These necklaces take up very little space and if you have your silver hoops to coordinate, you are set to go.

Love Winter

But what if you are so accustomed to the cold, snow and ice and you don’t want to jar your system with temperature change?  So, you decide to take a few days during the winter break to go skiing. Do you need jewelry? Not when you are on the slopes, but more and more women are ‘dressing’ for dinner. What that looks like might just be a turtleneck sweater, slacks and heeled boots, but invariably, it includes jewelry. Our handmade necklaces look great over ribbed tops, worn on solid colors and you are sure to gather compliments.

Stay Home

Some people really love sports, love staying home and really love having a reason to have a party. Put this all together and you have a reason to celebrate the final weekend of the 2014 winter Olympics. A fast glance on Pinterest confirms there will be many parties  judging by the pins about party drinks and ideas. You might serve an Olympic Rings Vodka Martini- a perfect union of Russian vodka with an international spirit to conclude the 2014 winter Olympics. Do you reach for the same necklace you always wear or since you are in a festive mood, you choose the new necklace you purchased from http://www.EarthandMoonDesign.com.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  2. Fun post! I have been trying to wear more necklaces. I always wear earrings and rings, but I am enjoying how necklaces can modify the outfit. Guess I’m on trend (hehe) – I am really into necklaces with solid shirts, especially turtle necks. Your jewelry pics are beautiful.

  5. Hi Roslyn,

Some cute accessories. It’s amazing to see what you can come up with when you mix and match them. Although I’m not a big jewelry person but I know people who are, and they share the same things you do. Thanks for sharing Roslyn!

  7. You are so correct about necklaces with turtlenecks! They dress up every sweater and give me a lift even if my feet are encased in ugly snow boots. Once you’re sitting down, who looks at your feet?

  8. I love wearing colorful and distinct jewelry, especially when I need to wear black or grey professional clothes. And for vacation I always pack simple colorful necklaces – two or three that can work with many tops without being overwhelming. I love your ideas, Roz. 🙂

  9. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry besides my wedding ring and basic pearl earrings, but I love all the beautiful colors. I’m especially attracted to jewel tones. Your pieces are so stunning Roslyn.

  10. Love this piece. So true! I have escaped the cold to Florida and forgot to bring some of my favorite “Roz” pieces. How I miss them! Still accessorizing with those I brought. Great ideas.

  11. I went to your website to get to the blog. On the way I was mesmerized by the four rotating photos. For me the photos and the accompanying jewelry were “wows”. Now I am on your blog and “wow” again. The combination of scenes and earth moon designs are inspiring. I need to start wearing my necklaces and liven up my look.

Thanks so much Linda for your comment and ‘wows’. Always happy to hear we visually please our customers. Necklaces are made to be worn, so choose one daily.

  12. For me, jewelry if the perfect accessory for virtually any occasion – even going to the store. I especially liked the parts of your post that gave specific suggestions of what to wear with the lovely pieces you featured – it makes you start thinking of what can be paired with outfits you already own. Good stuff! Thanks Roz.

  13. Yes Dawn and often it is less expensive to purchase a new necklace that coordinates with several outfits, than an entirely new outfit. Most women won’t leave home without earrings and rings. Just imagine how we can brighten up any space we enter with our jewelry.

  14. Your pieces are beautiful, Roz! I would definitely choose the beach and Hawaii sounds great right now. I love the gray/black necklace and earrings from the winter collection, Excellent post!

Thanks Robin for your comment. Yes, most of us buried in snow or cold would choose to escape to a beach. My friends and famiy in Florida are calling, “come on down.” The gray/black Jasper necklace is a classic style and the stones have a nice smooth feel to them. I added the pop of peach pink Swarovski crystal to take it through multiple seasons.
