Goals- Past and Future

Roslyn Our Journey artist, beaded Jewelry, goal setting

As I started to think about goals, I couldn’t help but wonder  what my real business really was. I got so lost in Facebook and Pinterest in 2013, at times I hardly had time to create new jewelry. I browsed the internet and platforms for ideas in order to create original graphics for my posts. Am I in the business of having a great Facebook page or  in the business of creating beaded jewelry? Did I lose sight of my business goals?

What I didn’t know

When I started out 6 years ago I knew I had a hobby that I  happily turned into a business. I knew I loved creating jewelry that women admired, loved wearing and was suitable for women from all walks of life. What I didn’t know was that I needed to know how to use social media marketing to promote my online business. What I didn’t know was that I would fall in love with creating graphics and talking to people I met all over the world via posts and comments. What I didn’t know was that I would become  addicted to social media.humor

2013 Accomplishments

This revelation has me assessing my goals for 2014. I am pleased with many things I’ve accomplished in 2013: My Facebook page grew from 300 to 1,000 (of course since I gave it so much attention), We had a new website created that truly reflects our market, goals and creativity. Completing a graphics course opened another area of creativity I had not experienced before. Blogging became another avenue of self expression and creativity. Videos were made and I discovered my ease in front of a camera.  New platforms were started ( will get more comfy using google+) and  I lost 30 pounds. The most profound accomplishment has been on a very personal level and that is after 6 years of creating and selling  thousands of necklaces, acceptance of myself as a creative person and the joy of being an artisan.

2014 Goals

We look forward to 2014 as I set my goals, take on challenges, expand tools and skills in all directions and create our Spring Collection.  How exciting to start purchasing new beads and supplies now for spring colors and fashion with snow on the ground. Our designs change with the seasons as we look to see what styles will enhance your wardrobe. I welcome hearing from you, what you want to see, what you want to read about, what necklace would be perfect for that special dress or outfit. We are here to meet your accessory needs, so just let me know.

When you go to our website, http://www.earthandmoondesign.com, don’t overlook our sold group. You might see a design you passed up or would love in different colors. Contact me and we can work with you.

To a very successful New Year for all of us.#Happy New Year

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

Thanks Robin Maria Pedreroa, I enjoy sharing my goals, my year, my experiences, especially about using social media. Its a different mind set from those who choose social media as a profession.

Thanks Gilly, It was good to look back and see what I accomplished. This year will be mighty challenging as my business will be focusing more online and that is where learning how to apply social media marketing comes in and its challenging. (and I love challenges).

  1. I love hearing how you have grown and continue moving forward with the goals you have set. Looking forward to see your growth this year.

  2. I love the analysis you did of your journey through 2013. Most never look back and adjust whatever need adjusting. Each year I have to assess the time invested in my online “women and money” efforts since I don’t monetize them. And each year I determine that the nurturing I receive from other women’s self empowerment and self realization is enough. (At least for now.) But I DO go through the thought process openly and honestly. That’s how we keep everything okay, something I know you and I have figured out. Here’s to a superb 2014, Roz!

My usual style was to jot a few notes about goals, however the process of blogging and the many I read about goal setting had me stop, take the time and really reflect. I am clearer about the direction to proceed with as a result. I too can say (at least for now) I will try spending less time commenting, communicating and being on Facebook. It does feed my social drive, my sense of community and belonging. On a very personal note, having been raised in foster care I never felt as if I belonged and this was one of my greatest transformations: to shift from a false perception to embracing all the families I had at my fingertips. Facebook seems like an extension of this for me.

  3. Roslyn, this is an amazing journey you’ve had this year and I like the way you will be focusing more on what has worked for you in 2014. It is so easy to get lost in SM, even for us who work only on that. There’s so much info out there and so many sources of inspiration!
I will share this article with my followers as this is an example of how SM can help a small business grow into something bigger and more fulfilling. Cheers!

Veronica- We have each been on a journey and know the ups and downs. Although I created my business 6 years ago, because I took it to social media, it feels new. It is my baby and its exciting to shape and direct it. Thank you for sharing this with your followers. Hopefully, it will inspire (which is one of my guide words for 2014) and also one of the purposes I believe of my life. 2014 will be a great year for those of us with determination, persistence, consistence and generosity.

  6. What a wonderful list of accomplishment! I am so glad to be connected with you on the various social platforms. I love it when I have friends (and clients) who love to learn and become independent social media managers!

I might just have to interview you, would you be up for that?

Nice to see you here Dorin. I think we met because I won a contest. Now I’m an ardent follower. Thanks for your compliment. And yes, I have had interviews. My only problem is “I talk too much”, but at 74 I have a lot to say.
