When we carry a gemstone or crystal in our pocket or wear some around our neck or wrist, the fascination with gemstones continues. Some feel the energy that flows from a gemstone while others select a gemstone for its healing properties, color or association.  Whatever it is that draws you to a gemstone, treasure it; that attraction represents something that you seek or a part of who you are.

We wish you a very exciting 2016 – may it be filled with an abundance of all good things.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  1. Love the Talisman Jewelry, Roslyn! I believe in that wholeheartedly, and do pick certain gemstones for what I may be needing that day. I have to laugh–I often wear turquoise when doing health clearances on my dogs. Figure the protection helps!

Susan Mary Malone, writing a blog on Talisman jewelry was suggested by one of our readers. So enjoyed the research and education and was pleased it resonated with our readers.

Yes, Cyndi, approaching astrology from other perspectives is enlightening. We were so pleased one of our fans/readers had a strong background in it and was happy to write a guest blog.

  2. I’m overwhelmed to see that my guest post made the list, Roslyn. That is a very big honor for me and one that I will always cherish. I remember the Scorpion post and the one on Talismans. Must check out the ones I missed. More power to your pen and Beth’s images in 2016!

It was clear Vatsala Shukla, that many easterners were not familiar with Vedic astrology. They didn’t know you could look at astrology from other cultures so the fabulous post was a hit on many levels. It was a great one to close our roundup with.

  3. I love your articles Roslyn! I am fascinated by the power of stones & only came to realize about 2 years ago how strongly I am effected by them. There is a store not too far from where I live that sells a lot of stones, crystals, etc. After being in the store for more than 10 mins I started feeling sick… this has happened to me more than once (and in another similar store!). I believe it is the energy from so many different stones around me that starts to throw me off. very very interesting topic.

  4. I’m so glad you made this post. I thought you had started the series of months after mine. I’m a Leo. But now I see that you wrote it right when I was having surgery last August and I simply missed it. Yay! You gave me another chance. I knew there were several stones but didn’t really know much about them. I didn’t know that Arizona, where I live, is the chief source these days for Peridot. Your gemstones articles are so interesting!

Beth Niebuhr, sorry I didn’t reply promptly. So glad you had the opportunity to catch the post about your sign. So often there are nuggets of info we don’t know about where we live. Just one of the things I love about writing & reading blogs.

  6. Roz, thanks for all of the work you put into your posts. When I was choosing wedding rings with my — uh hum — 3rd husband, I wanted to select a gemstone with very personal meaning and protective energy. We chose to have black onyx, turquoise, and diamonds, along with specific Native American symbols. I love our wedding rings!

Melanie Banayat, your two points warmed my heart. Firstly, thank you for appreciating the work we put into our blogs. Hopefully, it will help them be shared as well as to educate. Secondly, your ring sounds gorgeous. My engagement ring to my first husband was a Black Pearl from the South Seas. I loved my raised setting & it was more precious to me than getting a diamond.

  7. Love all the info you give about the materials you create with, Roslyn!

I never liked my birthstone (blue topaz) growing up because I always liked the warmer tones like amber, smoky quartz and gold topaz. Now that I’m an adult (more or less), I prefer to buy stones that I resonate with rather than what is “supposed to be” for my birth month. 🙂

I so understand Cathy Jennings & there are alternatives in birthstones or you could look at Zodiac sign stones. Most likely you are drawn to the ones that are a good fit. Appreciate that our information resonates.

  8. As an Aquarian, I remember you did a post about gemstones and us Aquarians, so am a bit sad to see it isn’t in your yearly roundup. Both my daughter and I have had a fascination and love of gemstones for many years. I always wear both a pendant and several bracelets made from gemstones and sometimes carry a hematite in my pocket as well to ground me. My ankle bracelet is hematite and swarovski crystal which I like to believe also helps to keep me on the ground. I cannot imagine a day without gemstones in my life. They are the essence of the earth and have both heavenly and earthly energies ascribed to them. Thanks for sharing these posts again, as hopefully more people will become fascinated by gemstones and include them in their lives, Roslyn.

  9. These are such interesting posts. I love the idea of using jewellery as a secret weapon! Your information about Virgos was spot on. I’m especially drawn to jade and lapis lazuli. I’m a lover of gemstones but I learned so much more about them in your post Want to Know More About Gemstones? Thanks for sharing a great collection of interesting posts, Roslyn.

Appreciate both your comments and time it takes to read several blogs. That title- Secret Weapons was a great headline & once you know the secrets you can use them. We hope to continue offering information in this theme this year.

  10. Of course, being a Scorpio, I love the Scorpio post!! And, also love that Vatsala’s post was so popular for your readers; the two of you are quite a team. The post Want to Know About Gemstones? is also one of my favorites. You put a lot of thought into your blog posts, Roz, and you always give us a ton of great information. Wishing you a happy and successful 2016.

So appreciate when a reader acknowledges our effort to provide great content. Our blogs, Deb Nelson are a collaboration and do take several days to prepare & polish. I honestly did not realize what it took until we went down this path.

  11. What a fun post! I love gemstones and have even done a number of prospecting trips where I have dug my own. The Scorpio post is, of course, my favorite–but I love looking at and learning more about all of your beautiful stones.

Marie Leslie, you are so connected to nature & show it in your photography. The area you live in affords you this opportunity. My only prospecting was a fun panning for gold in Alaska.

Wonderful roundup post, Roslyn! I do love roundup posts and analyzing them to determine content goals going forward. Your posts have been so informative and these on gemstones are great. I have enjoyed taking a closer look a birth stones.

Thank you, Robin Strohmaier. I was toying with the idea of a roundup & after coming across a few, including yours knew it was a good offering. We are looking forward to more blogs in this theme. With just 2 of us to create jewelry, blogs, posts, site copy, newsletters, etc, it takes a tight schedule to maintain this much content.

Looking forward to another great year with all our wonderful connections.

  14. Your passion for this hobby/love turned to a second half of life career just shines through in these posts Rosyln. Thanks for sharing your annual spotlight of what people are reading here. Happy New Year!

  15. Two thumbs up for you Roslyn! You’ve certainly inspired and encouraged me that it’s not too late to start again 🙂

  16. The Talisman post was lovely. Maybe you can do a post about different jewelry display options maybe you have already but I like the idea about making your jewelry art. I have toddler so I need to put mine kinda high on my wall she is now prone to open my standing jewelry box and bring things “look look, see see.” Also a selfish request for a post for Jewelry for Taurus 😉

  17. Good for you for pursuing your passion. I’m about 10 years behind you in age, but I’m also seeking to expand my passion and business this year, which is custom quilting.

  18. A great collection of beautiful posts that I recall reading over the time, Roz! I entertain the thought that wearing certain stones can help you feel more confident, energetic, and courageous. I do wear a few beautiful stones in my purse for good luck 🙂

  19. So many beautiful stones. You have lots of information included! I also love your personal story – I love that you’re enjoying learning new things!! How cool.

Kristen Wilson, I understand and I am learning about some of this ‘stuff’ as we go along. Any you are right. It is important to write blogs that are informational, interesting and relevant to our product. We are branching out into more lifestyle blogs in 2016 so you might find some of the new topics a better fit.

  21. Roslyn – I enjoyed your post, and went to your website and saw your beautiful jewelry (lots had already been sold!) Just a couple of random ideas in no particular order: I always feel prettiest just when I get out of the beauty shop. I wonder if you could coordinate with local beauty shops in your area & take photos of women when they have just had their hair don – and modeling your jewelry. It would take a lot of effort, but the patrons & the beauty shops might do it in exchange for a photo, & it would be great advertising for the beauty shops as well.

Also – just some other random thoughts about beauty/appearance that you might put in your thinking cap: I suspect that if women see the same jewelry modeled (& looking nice) on both young & older women, the sales would go up to the older crowd & down for the younger crowd. This is just a guess on my part. Anyway, the thing is, older women actually tend to have more discretionary dollars, & have less opportunity for photo-ops that showcase their beauty – so my free advice would be to go for the women over 40 years old. I just think there’s a HUGE untapped marked there – many of us are still working & NEED to look professional & want to look classy. You absolutely have the right key, here, with your jewelry.

Also – (sorry for the dissertation, but damn, your jewelry looks great) – recently, I read somewhere about a place that asked large women to send in a picture of clothes that they wished were in larger sizes. Well … the response was overwhelming. Again – a huge untapped market for apparel that makes us feel well groomed & attractive. AND WHY NOT? I’ll bet you have a sense of what jewelry proportions would look best on large or small women – if you go with the picture thing – I’d capitalize on that as well.

Wow- The highest compliment to receive is to have one of our readers brainstorm for us. Thank you so much, Joan Potter for all these great ideas. We have explored live photography and we wish we could do it. Still on the drawing board. I’ve shared your thoughts with my partner & coach & saved them. Again, thank you so much for your ideas & input.

  23. I now am the proud wearer of my mom’s “mother’s ring,” which I gave to her years ago. It has the birthstones of all her children, plus diamonds from her wedding set. Every time I see it, I think of her and family.

  24. You have the best gemstone blog on the planet, Roslyn.

On the subject of topics: My geologist friend tells me that some gemstones actually have energy that matches human energy. His heart skipped a beat when he touched quartz!
