Smoothies are all the rage; even celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow credit their daily smoothies for their vibrant healthy glow. So this spring, along with cleaning out your closets, why not jump on the health bandwagon and clean out your body too with detox smoothies? Detox smoothie drinks encourage elimination processes in the body while fortifying it with nutrients. Some of the many health benefits of detox smoothies are aiding weight loss, flushing out toxins, and strengthening immunity. Depending on what ingredients you choose to blend, they can deliver your daily dose of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and proteins while also tasting great. These scrumptious and easy recipes will help you to look and feel your best.
Berry Detox Smoothie
Berries are high in antioxidants and fiber and can be used individually or combined with other fruits, veggies and/or superfoods. Using fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies is recommended but keep some berries, mangos, bananas, etc. handy in your freezer for those times when you can’t run to the market or for when they are out of season. Bursting with vibrant color, berry smoothies always look appetizing to me.
Detox Green Cleanse
Leafy greens are rich in chlorophyll and nutrients; they’re purifying, healing and high in fiber. If you don’t like eating spinach, chard and kale, using them in a smoothie is a great way to get greens into your diet. When using kale, stick to baby kale as it is easier for your blender to chop. If a green drink doesn’t entice you, toss in some fruit to sweeten it a little and think of all the health benefits you are getting in just one drink.
Detox Smoothies with Herbs and Spices
Common herbs and spices like turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, ginger and green tea have long been used in folk medicine as health remedies. Ginger has a cleansing effect on the digestive system and, in combination with cinnamon or turmeric, it has anti-inflammatory benefits as well. It’s amazing what just a pinch of a spice can do.
Detox Smoothies for Weight Loss
With warm weather coming, many of us want to drop a few pounds. Substituting a low-calorie detox smoothie for a meal is an excellent tool for weight loss. These smoothies are delicious, nutritious and filling, and their detox ingredients stimulate fat metabolism and elimination. The ultimate result is that you beautify and energize yourself while losing weight. That sounds like a winning combination to me!
You Are What You Drink
For the most beneficial and delicious smoothies, don’t skimp on the ingredients. Use only quality, clean foods and organic pesticide-free fruits and vegetables. There are zillions of recipes and guides to get you started and we have pinned a few to our Pinterest board. And no matter what you toss into your blender, there really is no wrong way to make a smoothie.

Oh yum! Triple Bery Chia Smoothie looks so good. It’s a great idea to get your greens in by adding them to a smoothie. I’m a big fan of these drinks but usually only make banana smoothies. Time to start experimenting with new tastes. Thanks for the tips.

Exactly Tamuria. I found myself having the same protein smoothy daily until I decided to get adventurous. What surprised me was how capable my inexpensive blender is. Now I toss in whatever is in my bin.
Yet as we age, pay attention to food combining. Fruit only with fruit. Not combine with protein or vegetables. Vegetables can be combined with protein, but need to be aware of the source of protein. Mixing proteins is also confusing to the digestive system.

Thanks for adding this info. I knew that & when I toss in from my bin it is a few fruits or a few greens. A good friend is a nutritionist & she has guided me in transitioning to whole healthy way of eating.
I imbibe the philosophy of eating seasonal fruits so I’m giving my vote to the Berry Detox Smoothies. It’s Mango season in India right now and I’ll be trying out some new smoothies. Ah Bliss, Roslyn!

Vatsala, my favorite fruit is mango & I haven’t tossed it into my blender because I enjoy eatting the frit. I do ocassionaly use frozen mango instead of ice cubes & love the added flavor.
We have been doing smoothies for a few years. I love my protein, blueberries and kale smoothie. My husband’s favorite is with oatmeal, and ginger with kale and pineapple. It helps me with staying hydrated too. 🙂 Thanks for sharing these recipes. I’m going to try them too.
Author
Thanks Sabrina for describing your favorites. Sounds like I’ll try yours. Will have to read up on using oatmeal as I am not familiar with using raw oats.
As you know Roslyn, I generally use a macronutrient balanced base for my smoothies and then add whatever moves me in the moment. Often I don’t want to add a lot of other things to the shakes, as they have everything I need already in them and they taste wonderful. I do make juices in the summer with our juicer. A favourite is carrot, celery, apple and ginger. Juice is a great way to use dandelion greens in a drink too! Although I am not a big fan of cucumber, the anti-bloat smoothie sounds like it is a great way to release excess liquid too. The photos are wonderful and really do represent each of these recipes very well! The first berry detox drink looks and sounds fabulous too!

Beverley Golden, all during my search for a protein smoothy base I was adding things to my blender. Since finding & loving Usana chocolate protein, I also make a fairly pure morning drink. I will try many of the recipes on our Pinterest board. Amazing the variety and health benefits.
I love smoothies, and we drink them almost every morning! I don’t have a set recipe, but I usually start with coconut milk or water, a plant based protein powder, and add frozen banannas. Then I can either take it in a fruity direction or a chocolate one, or a green one… I like to add chia and flax seeds sometimes. I will definitely be trying all of these!

Kimberly, I like the idea of a stable base which I now have since I switched to Usana Protein powder. I also never froze a banana but saw that add in many recipes. Like the idea of changing off from a fruity smoothy to a green one throughout the week.
Oh I love this post that you incorporated the pins into it. It took me a while to get to commenting because I was so busy pinning! I just got a new Ninja for making smoothies so I’m always looking for new recipes. I really appreciate these and that you had them categorized by type. I’m sure I’m going to go back and pin them all. They all look amazing!

These look delicious, Roz! Especially with summer coming, which is so hot here, I love smoothies. Am always looking for ways to get more flax and chia seeds into my diet as well, so that really helps! Thank You.

Adding flax & chia seeds to my smoothies sold me on it as one of my daily meals Susan Mary Malone.
I love thess, Roz, and picked out a couple of favorites. Very timely for me, thanks.
Author
Thank you, Jane Gramlich. It is timely and I’m looking forward to trying some out too.
I do turn to detox smoothies when I need to reset or when my skinny jeans are feeling tighter than normal. I use my juicer also when that time comes.
Author
Rachel Lavern, ever since I started using my blender for smoothies, i stopped juicing. So much easier.
the berry ones look yummy except for the red beets. I know they are good for you but just have never been able to eat them. Guess I stick with the green cleanse smoothies!
Author
Alene Geed, I love beets and have not used them in a smoothie. Green pepper is a veggie I have trouble with & don’t eat them. So many types of berry smoothies to be made without beets, just go for it.
Mmmmm… smoothies…
I just love them. My day doesn’t feel complete without one. Thank you for the excellent recipe ideas. I’m book-marking this page so I can try a few new ones. I usually pick nettles and dandelions from the garden to add to my morning smoothies, which add extra green power. I’ve got to watch for the old dandelions, though because they’re a bit too bitter…
Thank you for this post!
Big Love,
~ Jenny

You are welcome Sonya. Seems smoothies is a favorite breakfast drink.
Awesome! More recipes to try with my Vitamix! Hubby and I like different ingredients – always makes it interesting!

Just think Robin, you get to try each others.
Wow, I’ve never actually made a smoothie yet, but those pictures and recipes really make me want to give it a go. The berry one looks absolutely marvellous, and I also like Jenny’s idea of adding in nettles and dandelions from the garden. The closest thing to a smoothie I drink is a soy milk and banana shake; very easy – just put some soy milk a couple of bananas and a squirt or two of honey in the blender and hey presto! Hope you enjoy your summer full of smoothies ^=^

Julia, you are so on your way to a smoothie. Add berries to your existing mix, or follow any of the other recipes & you will be varying your daily drink.
Oh wow, I’m bookmarking this and sharing it with my tribe, and picking up cucumber today so I can try that anti-bloat smoothie. Thanks!

So glad you found a particular recipe helpful Sue Kearney. I think once you get started, you will float away in smoothies.
The berry smoothies look good. The green? Eh…not so much. Just the thought of drinking green stuff makes my stomach hurt. 😉 I have a bowl of berries for lunch almost every day. They are light enough that I don’t feel clogged the rest of the afternoon. Of course, neither do they keep me full till dinner, so I have to snack (healthfully, of course) right about…now!

I know exactly what you mean Jackie Harder. I felt that way when I made my first green smoothie. I was so surprised by the pleasant taste and it didn’t taste green. I eat a bowl of berries every morning and I often take an early lunch. Sometimes I have my smoothie for lunch. The amount of variations is endless.
Hi Roslyn,
Detoxing smoothies is something I have never done 🙂 After reading maybe it is something I should look more into 🙂 Thanks for sharing the wonderful recipes!

Joan Harrington, Drinking a smoothie is a treat. Depending on what ingredients it can cleanse and nourish. Mostly you don’t even realize you are detoxing, it is just a delicious drink.
Awesome recipes Roz, will have to check out your pinterest board for them. I am a smoothie girl myself… but not sure they are detox ones… but def yummy!
