Everyone knows about Mother’s Day but did you know there also was a Senior Citizen’s and Grandparent’s Day?

National Senior Citizen’s Day falls on 21st August this year and is swiftly followed by Grandparent’s day on the 1st Sunday after Labor Day. Grandparent’s Day has been celebrated in the U.S. since 1978, and it is coming up soon on Sept.7th, 2014. An official song was created in 2004 by Johny Prill to commemorate grandparents. Schools are encouraged to have children learn and perform “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa” as a way to show their love and appreciation. http://youtu.be/KjAECeBqM3s

And There is More

There is also an official flower for Grandparent’s Day, the forget-me-not which blooms in the spring. forget-me-not There is no question that grandparents and older members of the family/community are important to the structure of society in nurturing and sometimes upbringing or educating the children. These special days honor  and gives a mutual opportunity to take time to show each other some love and respect that might otherwise get lost during the course of our busy lives. It also helps children become more aware of all the strength and wisdom older people can offer.

Will You Be Ready?

Most women appreciate receiving a new necklace and you might have hesitated to purchase grandma one because she complained about trouble hooking it up. She finds clasps difficult or she doesn’t want to turn it to the front to clasp and then move it around to the back. As we get older, we all want to find easier ways of doing things. Grandma may still be working and likes to add an accessory to her outfit with little fuss or bother. I recall a nurse who loved to toss on a necklace under her uniform. Sometimes she needed to remove it quickly, other times she liked to show it as it cheered up her patients so she had a custom rope made in her favorite colors.

We Have Solutions

Over the years we have heard this concern and we have designed several styles to address it.

The 6′ Rope

This design is so popular and has been featured in past blogs to demonstrate ease and versatility. We currently have several in stock in different colors. Long beaded beige necklace

Over the Head

Another way we solved this problem was to create a design that just slips over your head. That’s right- no clasp at all, and with a focal bead that can be worn asymetrical or centered.

Last but not least: Magnetic Clasps

What a pleasure to bring a necklace up and around the neck and have a strong clasp grasp together. They are safe and easy to use and we have just added a few to our fall collection.

I loved going to work each day for 30 years as a professional career counselor. When I retired, I explored my creativity and regard for crafts until I discovered beading. At age 68 I turned my new found passion- jewelry design, into a business. At age 72 I took on learning about social media marketing and developing my computer skills. I am sharing my journey from inception, to frustration, to elation -in the hope of inspiring others that 'it is not too late to start again'. Welcome to my re-invention!

  1. What great gift ideas you have created for grandmothers of all ages. There is something for everyone and you have also looked out for the needs of those who struggle putting jewelry on. Those clasps can be pesky at times. 🙂 Any grandmother would love one of your creations.

  2. Lovely necklaces, Roslyn. Beautiful work. I have a necklace very similar to the 6-inch rope. I’ve purchased a number of “chunky” necklaces and one thing I’ve learned about the heavier pieces is to be sure that the area that sits against your neck is made of smooth…whatevers. Stones, beads, etc. Faceted crystals after a while dig in to my neck and I’ve gotten very particular about my necklaces as a result.

  3. WOW! I had never thought much about grandparent’s day but gee, this is giving me new inspiration. I love love love your creative works and ideas. Thanks so much.

  4. I hate visiting your site because I want them all! If I could afford it, I’d order a new necklace/earring & maybe bracelet set at least once a month. That would be my dream. That made me think of an idea… how about a club we could join and be able to get a special price on a set? Maybe once each season or at least twice a year? Really I don’t hate your site, I love it and your jewelry.
